An Example on Toulmin's Model

TOULMIN'S MODEL OF ARGUMENTATION

Claim:

"Use of technology is must for future classroom"

Grounds:

Whether we like it or not, technology is everywhere. There are countless reason for technology to be key aspects of learning. For new teachers, technology is considered a necessity for the learning environment.

Warrant:

When technology is integrated into lessons, students are expected to be more interested in the subjects they are studying. Technology provides different opportunities to make learning more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching same things in new ways. Technology benefits both students and teachers for proper collaboration, improves engagement and knowledge retention. It also encourages individual learning.

Backing:

No one can learn in the same way due to different learning styles and various abilities. Technologies provides great opportunities for learning effectively for everyone with different needs. Also, Students can learn useful life skills through technology. Technology can encourage collaboration with students in the same classroom, same school and even with other classrooms around the world. What is more, technology can encourage a more active participation in the learning process which can be hard to achieve through a traditional lecture environment.

Qualifier:

The traditional passive learning model is broken. With technology in the classroom the teacher becomes the encourager, adviser, and coach. Having countless online resources, technology can help improve teaching. Teachers can use different apps or trusted online resources to enhance the traditional ways of teaching and to keep students more engaged. Virtual lesson plans, grading software and online assessments can help teachers save a lot time. This valuable time can be used for working with students who are struggling. Technology helps students be more responsible. Owning your own device or borrowing the school's devices gives students the opportunity to improve their decision making skills as well as taking ownership of a valuable device.

Rebuttal:

Technology might be expensive to integrate in classroom but those who can afford can see all the great benefits that come with it. It improves on student's skills and it also makes them enjoy learning.
