Every friday in Narayanhiti palace, the king Birendra and his dearest ones used to have some dinner parties event at night. On June 1st, 2001 also the event was going to be organized. And, twenty-four people were invited to be present by 7:30 PM for the party event. Among those twenty-four people, only twenty-one people attended the event happening in the palace. Prekshya Rajyalakshmi devi Shah, Mohan Bahadur Shahi and Bimala Singh weren't attending the event that day. Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah wasn't invited for the event because he was in Pokhara that day. The day is considered as the black day for Nepalese people because the most lovable King of the country and his family were brutally murdered inside their own palace. At first, Gyanendra and Prime Minister Girija Koirala announced that the worst royal massacre since the assassination of the Romanovs of Russia in 1917 had been caused by an automatic weapon that had gone off by itself. Soon, the explanation for the massacre was changed to a story befitting any Hollywood script. The massacre happened in and around Tribhuvan Sadan, northwest of Narayanhiti Palace.
Royal Family of Nepal
On June 1st, 2001 around 7 o' clock, Prince Dipendra was playing snooker in the Club house inside the palace. Dipendra's bodyguard Gajendra Bohara was assisting him for arranging the balls. The family mebers of Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah arrived in palace by 7:40 PM excluding him. According to the statement of Paras Shah, Prince Dipendra was already drunk when he reached the palace. The drunk Dipendra, pointing towards Divyani Shah told Parash that we are going to marry, but my mother denied. Now, I had to talk to my father very next day. Around 8 o' clock, Prince Dipendra took his vehicle and visited Mahendra manjil to pick his grandmother Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Devi Shah. He picked her and drove the vehicle himself to the palace. For the events occuring in palace, either King Birendra or Prince Dipendra had to pick Ratna Rajya Lakshmi as per royal family traditions. Dipendra, then took his grandmother to the small living room east of the williyard room where royal massacre took place. He left his grandmother with Helen Shah and stayed alone for a while in the williyard room. At that time, he drank 2/3 pegs of neat whisky. He also served the drinks to the guests. After drinking very much, he wasn't able to control his own body. So, Paras Shah, Gorakh Shumsher, Niranjan Shah and Dr. Rajiv Shahi took Prince Dipendra to his own room. Dipendra's weapon was also taken out for making him comfortable to sleep.
At 8:12 PM, Dipendra called Divyani Rana for One minute and fourteen seconds. At 8:19, He ordered Gajendra Bohara to bring Shikhar cigaratte mixing some weeds through Paras Shah. At the same time, Divyani telephoned Dipendra and the conversation lasted for four minutes and fourteen seconds. She didn't revealed the talks between them even after royal massacre. At 8:25 PM, Divyani called Gajendra Bohara and Raju karki to look after Dipendra as she felt Prince Dipendra was unconsious. When the people in the palace looked after Dipendra, he was in his own room trying to take his clothes off. Later, he went to bathroom and started vomiting as heard by palace worker Jamuna Adhikari. He, then went to his bed and also asked others to go for sleep.

At 8:30 PM, King Birendra met his mother Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Devi Shah for a while and went to williyard room. Again, Dipendra wishes goodnight to Divyani calling her at 8:39 PM. It is believed that Dipendra woke and went with an MP5K and an M16 Rifle. He fired a single shot into the ceiling before shot his father, King Birendra. Seconds later, Dipendra shot one of his aunts. He then shot his uncle Dhirendra at the chest when he tried to stop Dipendra. His mother, Queen Aishwarya came to the room when the first shots were fired, left quickly, looking for help. Dipendra’s mother Aishwarya and brother Nirajan were found in the palace garden, where they were both shot dead. Dipendra, then shot himself as per the government report. Dipendra was alive at that time. But why would Dipendra shot himself after he was going to be crowned the King of Nepal after the death of his father?
Dipendra was proclaimed King while in a coma, but he died on June 4, 2001, after a three-day reign. Gyanendra was then appointed a regent. While Dipendra lived, Gyanendra maintained the deaths were the result of an accident. However, he later said that he made this claim due to “legal and constitutional hurdles”, since under the constitution, and by tradition, Dipendra could not have been charged with murder had he survived. A full investigation took place, and Crown Prince Dipendra was found to be responsible for the killing. During the royal massacre, Gyanendra Bikram Saha was in Ratna Mandir, Pokhara.
The new King Gyanendra’s only son, Paras, an unpopular brute, was at the palace during the slaughter but managed to survive without so much as a scratch. Due to the absence of Gyanendra in the event and survival of Gyanendra's whole family, he was also suspected as the murderer of the royal family by Nepalese citizens. Gyanendra himself has long been a CIA and U.S. corporate stooge. For example, he has a relationship with Henry Kissinger that goes back to the 1970s and the Ford administration. Also, Gyanendra was willing to make Nepal a part of India just like Sikkim on the time when hatred was flourishing between Nepali and Indians. The reason for that were, India always wanted to interfere in the politics of Nepal and Indian media was also covering fake news favouring their country and flowing hatred among the public. That was also the time when Maoists brutally murdered the innocent publics and policemen. At that time, Prachanda and Baburam Bhattrai were considered to be the threat for the nations. The so-called Maoists of Nepal, while mostly leftists, are first and foremost, Nepali nationalists who are attempting to prevent Gyanendra from turning Nepal into another state of India, much like what happened to neighboring Sikkim in 1975. Gyanendra, being part of the Bush Family’s New World Order, is part and parcel of the U.S. plan to throw a cordon sanitaire of pro-U.S. states around China. On the other hand, King Birendra wanted to open peace negotiations with the rebels and was also known to be a staunch anti-Indian Nepali nationalist.
One of the well known magazine, the Monthly Review puts contrasts that royal massacre of Nepal was planned and executed by RAW, Indian government security agency with the support of CIA, security agency of US government. The article was covered by Wayne Madsen in September 21, 2002 A.D. The magazine stated how CIA planned the massacre of royal family in Nepal and massacre of Venezuela 's president, which they failed to execute in Venezuela but succeed in Nepal. This magazine said that "In the months leading up to the Nepali coup, the CIA established an office in the Maharajgunj District of Kathmandu, next door to the residence of Prince Gyanendra. Witnesses reoprtedly saw streams of Nepali police and military officials streaming into the offices. Other U.S. “civilians,” said to be with private military contractor CIA fronts like MPRI, were also seen arriving at the offices. In the spring, a U.S. Special Operations Forces personnel arrived in Kathmandu on a secret exercise code-named Bailey Nightingale I. The cover for the exercise was said to be earthquake disaster training. But it now appears it had another disaster in mind. The military team was composed of U.S. psychological operations (PSYOPs) personnel adept at coming up with tales like the one about the Crown Prince murdering his family."
Wayne Madsen also stated "The CIA’s disinformation machinery was proven wrong in Lima, in Kathmandu, and now, in Caracas. The CIA and George Tenet, its director, have once again been shown to be nothing more than scam artists with a knack for lying through their teeth. According to unblemished sources in Kathmandu, the king and his family were quickly dispatched by a Nepali army commando unit trained at the time by U.S. Special Operations forces sent by U.S. Pacific Commander in Chief Adm. Dennis Blair (he’s the same guy who propped up Gen. Wiranto with special training while the good general was committing genocide in East Timor). What was to become the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Influence (PSYOPs division) prepared a story, with the assistance of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) intelligence agency, that the King and his family were murdered as a result of the Crown Prince going nuts with automatic weapons after being forlorn over his mother’s refusal to allow him to marry a commoner."
Soon after the massacre, the committee was formed to investigate the case of Narayanhiti Palace by the prime minister, Girija Prasad Koirala but they did nothing towards the case. Till then, many had became prime minister but none of them had shown interests in the case of royal massacre. Even though Gyanendra ruled regime for about 7 years but also he did nothing to find the culprit. Now, King Birendra and his family are no longer with us. But even after 19 years of royal massacre, the truth of the incident and the background information is not known yet.
In 2015, the building was reconstructed. Nowadays, the King's Narayanhiti Palace is used as Museum as declared by Girija Prasad Koirala on June 15, 2008, and was opened for public by Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) on February 26, 2009. The museum opens Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday After 10:30 am to 4 pm. The charge for tourists are high and are less for Nepali citizens.
